Michael and Michael have fun catching up after a week off for recharging. Unfortunately our special guest Phaedra Boinodiris got caught up in her day job and couldn’t join us, but her tag on Hacking the Olympics sparked a great discussion on information hacking. Speaking of hacking, we review how Mobility hacks up your personal life, no way to get away from work. Duckboxxer and Andy Piper provide some great tags on Twitter. We also talk about the perils of location based services. We bring back a brief discussion on the 3D Internet, looking at where has all the hype gone. And end the show in honor of all those parents and students dealing with back to school.

Hey folks, occasional guest Andy Piper here… thought I’d drop this post in while the Michaels take a well-deserved week off.

We all know that in order to get something we spotted on the interwebs onto the radar for the show, we should add the tag “dogear-nation” on Delicious.

A couple of weeks back, Luis Suarez mentioned that he uses ma.gnolia to share his bookmarks… and I’ve been a sometime user of Mister Wong. Maybe other listeners use those services, too.

So here’s an experiment. I’m certainly still going to be using Delicious, but let’s try a way of aggregating tags from those other services.

A few weeks ago I saw a great demo from Greg Schwartz who runs the Uncontrolled Vocabulary podcast, which introduces to the “Rooms” functionality over on FriendFeed (NB the part which deals with rooms is the third segment of the video). I’ve gone ahead and created a room for Dogear Nation, which pulls in the dogear-nation tag feeds from Delicious, Mister Wong, and ma.gnolia. The neat thing about the FriendFeed room is that people who join it can post comments on the different items, so we can get discussion going around particular topics ahead of the show if we want to.

All you have to do is continue to tag your interesting finds with “dogear-nation” on Delicious, and now on ma.gnolia and Mister Wong too if you wish… and they will show up in the room. Once there, you can add comments and discuss the links further if you have views you want to share.

Take a look, and feel free to join us in the Dogear Nation room on FriendFeed (oh, and I’m andypiper on all four services if you want to follow me, although note that I mainly use del.icio.us for my own social bookmarks).

Michael and Michael welcome special guest Rob Smart to the show this week. Rob comes from IBM’s Hursley lab and was the developer of the Second Life Translation HUD back in 2006. While the rest of the world is talking about the olympics, the we focus on tech, tweets, and drinks this week. Our listener links this week focus on iPhone access to Virtual Worlds, Data, and Mobile Me. We look at the new xbat imbedded in Internet Explorer 7, and a quick look back at the summer of Web 2.0. We also unveil the new Dogear-Nation Hoodie! Just a reminder that we will not be recording a show next week and will be back on our recording schedule August 22nd.
