Hi Heidi, Thanks for the detailed comments. I agree the iPhone is not a good form factor for reading for a long time. I know that my wife’s library has been looking at the Kindle and there are some programs with Amazon and the Kindle around libraries. Haven’t followed it too deep.
As for the heavy handed DRM, I don’t think it leads directly to consumer confidence. I do think that it encourages more publishers to get content out for the device, and that will drive consumer confidence. Eventually, we get to the critical mass where the content providers will then drive towards more open platform plays, as has happened with DRM free audio.
BTW, I like old software license that Borland used to use, which said, “treat this piece of software like a book, you can’t read it in two places at one time”, I guess with ebook’s we are trying to keep that a true statement.
James, Thank you for the feedback. Not sure I grok the Tommy Cooper reference, but I am sure it’s funny
I believe the question should be re-worded a bit to not iTunes, but Podcatcher… We support SongBird too
We really do struggle with the show length. As Andy points out we have such great tags from all of our listeners that we want to talk about, but that stretches the show out too much. My basic goal is that the show should be no longer than a one way commute to work. (Average 30-40 minutes). If we made it my commute it would be as short at 5 minutes… Not even long enough to list all the tags.
Hi Roo, great to hear from you… I do think that the open development aspect as described in the blog is different from what I got while we did the show. The second post did not make it to me in time for reading before the show. The larger point I was trying to make was that many modern media companies have not done a good job of leveraging social media in a meaningful way. I think it would be great, if you are available closer to the November date, if you could come on the show and perhaps provide a bit of insight of how it’s coming along.
Thank you Mikael,… Appreciate the feedback, and I agree, we need to figure out a better way of recording these shows when we have such a large group on the line… Perhaps we can try TalkShoe if they are still around…
Thanks Bill, Yes still playing with the BoinxTV software and realized the levels are not consistent. I will definitely fix the mix. It seems every piece of software has it’s own interpretation of the input levels.
Glad you are enjoying the Kindle2, I do think that it is a good buy, I just don’t see it as a worth while upgrade from the Kindle 1 that I have. Maybe the Kindle 3 will make me upgrade
Just wanted to apologize to our listeners… Was so good to have everyone in the same room, that I didn’t take into account the fact that we would have 4 laptops (all with the fan’s going as loud as they could), and so our base audio picked up a lot of Fan Noise. I tried to clean it, but it made the audio worse, so I had to make an editing decision to leave it in.
