Hey folks, occasional guest Andy Piper here… thought I’d drop this post in while the Michaels take a well-deserved week off.

We all know that in order to get something we spotted on the interwebs onto the radar for the show, we should add the tag “dogear-nation” on Delicious.

A couple of weeks back, Luis Suarez mentioned that he uses ma.gnolia to share his bookmarks… and I’ve been a sometime user of Mister Wong. Maybe other listeners use those services, too.

So here’s an experiment. I’m certainly still going to be using Delicious, but let’s try a way of aggregating tags from those other services.

A few weeks ago I saw a great demo from Greg Schwartz who runs the Uncontrolled Vocabulary podcast, which introduces to the “Rooms” functionality over on FriendFeed (NB the part which deals with rooms is the third segment of the video). I’ve gone ahead and created a room for Dogear Nation, which pulls in the dogear-nation tag feeds from Delicious, Mister Wong, and ma.gnolia. The neat thing about the FriendFeed room is that people who join it can post comments on the different items, so we can get discussion going around particular topics ahead of the show if we want to.

All you have to do is continue to tag your interesting finds with “dogear-nation” on Delicious, and now on ma.gnolia and Mister Wong too if you wish… and they will show up in the room. Once there, you can add comments and discuss the links further if you have views you want to share.

Take a look, and feel free to join us in the Dogear Nation room on FriendFeed (oh, and I’m andypiper on all four services if you want to follow me, although note that I mainly use del.icio.us for my own social bookmarks).

Spore is bigger than all of creation! Are we all bored of the iPhone 3G news, yet? Andy actually bought his on the launch day. Are location based services the real reason behind the GPS in the iPhone? Why does the 3G phone need 802.11 connection for iTunes purchase?

While this will be an extremely abbreviated show, it’s not because we didn’t record a normal length show. It’s because I - Michael Rowe, forgot to hit record on this week’s normal recording. While we’ve been searching for better recording quality, I convinced Michael and Matt that we should do another show with Skype. This was a great idea, and while using Audio Hijack on my Mac, everything sounded great. The only problem was, I never hit record. So, I am going to give you a quick re-cap of the show, and include all the links in this weeks Show Notes. Have a great week and we will be back to our regular recording this coming week.

Simplicity + Maximum Verbosity

Matt and Michael M ensure that the show goes on, despite Michael R’s illness — sending good wishes to our missing co-host with a slightly longer than usual episode, Matt and Michael talk about the beauty of simplicity, both in software and hardware products, reminisce about Dungeons and Dragons and discuss the grand sport of peep jousting . When things just work, it’s a beautiful thing. Matt is slowly breaking down, calling an iPhone “seductive” and actually tagging links with the device that must not be named. Could we be going 3 for 3 in the Dogear Nation host to iPhone ratio? Time will tell. In any case, pay attention to Matt’s final thought and backup your hard drive. You’ll be glad you did!

 <itunes:summary>Simplicity + Maximum Verbosity

Matt and Michael M ensure that the show goes on, despite Michael R's illness -- sending good wishes to our missing co-host with a slightly longer than usual episode, Matt and Michael talk about the beauty of simplicity, both in software and hardware products, reminisce about Dungeons and Dragons and discuss the grand sport of peep jousting . When things just work, it's a beautiful thing. Matt is slowly breaking down, calling an iPhone "seductive" and actually tagging links with the device that must not be named. Could we be going 3 for 3 in the Dogear Nation host to iPhone ratio? Time will tell. In any case, pay attention to Matt's final thought and backup your hard drive. You'll be glad you did!
