With a major Technotronic section this week, we have an exciting, exciting show. So tag, rate, and subscribe with a big cup of your favorite beverage, and enjoy the show.

163 – Breaking Virtual Bread

The Michaels have a great show this week, while Andy is out flying around. We are glad, however, that Andy is able to drop us a bit of coolness via Dropbox and edit it into this week’s show. In our 3D internet section we discuss meat space – This is a controversial contention, of course. There are proponents – of course you can have meaningful friendships online – and there are detractors – how on earth can a lean medium full of anonymous users replace the physical and visceral richness of meat-space? Thank you ePredator for a great tag! We also have a whole host of interesting listener tags to talk about, so don’t forget to keep tagging with “dogear-nation”!

Michael, Michael, and Andy get some time to talk to Keith Klemba and Wesley Mukai from SAP. Keith and Wes have been working on integrating Avatars into SAP’s technology. They have just unveiled the concept at this year’s Sapphire conference. Imagine the 3-D internet coming to a purchase order near you. We also have a great set of listener tags, and during the show we realize that it is the 30th anniversary of two things which have shaped our lives – PacMan and The Empire Strikes Back! So sit back, plug in, and enjoy our show!

153 – The Crowd’s Gonna Go Where the Crowd’s Gonna Go

Author: Michael Martine - Categories: Podcast
Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Andy and Michael M take you through the Interwebs, ruminating on your tags, setting a Dogearnation.com record for the longest “What’s cool?” section ever.  Going from consoles to kiosks, Andy and Michael talk about how the emerging social networking capabilities are providing the ability to mix the real world and the virtual in ways that were predicted by Neil Stephenson in Snow Crash.  Facebook privacy settings loom large (again!) with some nice visualizations for how the default privacy settings have evolved over the years, and upstarts such as Diaspora are quickly raising seed capital.  Will FB be the next MySpace, or will the new applications and interfaces propel Facebook to even higher heights?  Has Augmented Reality faded?  How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop?

While Andy jet sets back home from a week long conference, the Michaels take the opportunity to record a show at our favorite coffee shop Bean Traders. With a bit of cool jazz in the background, we talk about a great set of tech-no-tronic tags and ponder how much longer Facebook can survive with all the privacy issues which keep surfacing.
