Michael and Michael welcome our new “official” co-host – Andy Piper, and then end up having to move the recording time this week to way too late in the evening. So hopefully Andy will be joining us next week. This week’s show has a great set of listener tags. We look at the revival of Second Life (really??), new technology in Forterra, a new Virtual World in Australia, out of body experiences in Sweden, and a finish off our Obligatory 3D internet section with a really big beer! As we move over to the Social Networking section, Duckboxxer helps us see ads on Twitter, while Twitter turns down a rumored $500m deal from Facebook, we learn what we don’t know about language immersion from cynicalicious while Pownce gets pwned when they are purchased by Six Apart, and we resolve with the real value of the Re-Tweet. Our Mac-a-rooni section begins with Vista users begging Microsoft not to make Windows 7 easy to user over the expense of power and functionality, Kevinaires sends us a link to a cool iPhone holder, and Matt Goerning taking on Apple users and Steve Jobs.

It’s the new Dashboard Widget!

Author: Andy Piper - Categories: blog

A little while ago… actually… wow… nearly a year ago… I hacked up a little Mac Dashboard widget for the podcast. It was my first experience with Dashcode.

Since I’m cleaning and enhancing the site I thought I’d refresh the widget, and host it here on the blog.

DNwidget.jpg

I’ll be adding a page of tools, icons, badges and goodies soon, and the widget will eventually live there. For now, you can go ahead and download it directly here. It’s for Mac OS X 10.4.3 and upwards only. If you’ve got the old version installed then this one should offer to replace the existing version.

So what’s the point of the widget? Well, if you don’t subscribe to our podcast feed, or you just want to be able to pull up the Dashboard and get a list of the episodes and choose one to play, you can do so using the widget. By the way, you don’t have to leave the Dashboard open while the episode plays, you can just start it playing and go back to whatever you were doing before. The widget also has a quick link to the website in case you ever forget the URL :-)

Michael, Michael, and Matt consider security around new tools and toys written by “one Guy”, movies, Macs, and more. While sipping on a nice big glass of Sweet Tea, Michael and Michael try not to clear their throats too many times, while Matt keeps us under control.
