163 – Breaking Virtual Bread

The Michaels have a great show this week, while Andy is out flying around. We are glad, however, that Andy is able to drop us a bit of coolness via Dropbox and edit it into this week’s show. In our 3D internet section we discuss meat space – This is a controversial contention, of course. There are proponents – of course you can have meaningful friendships online – and there are detractors – how on earth can a lean medium full of anonymous users replace the physical and visceral richness of meat-space? Thank you ePredator for a great tag! We also have a whole host of interesting listener tags to talk about, so don’t forget to keep tagging with “dogear-nation”!

Andy and the Michaels can tell the holidays are here… our tech-no-tronic section is overflowing with excellent tech thanks to our listeners (duckboxxer, rickmans, bradicle, philhartman, and billsweeney1). It appears that the 3D internet must be fading back into 2D, due to all the very cool augmented reality capabilities being brought to phones, so we have gotten the message from you, our listeners, and have left the Obligatory section as optional.

Our words of the day are (Andy) – Flible, (Michael M.) – None- he’s saving up, and (Michael R.) – Is.

Author: Michael Rowe - Categories: Podcast
Tags: , , , , , , , , , , ,

This week Michael and Michael welcome special guest Zack – AKA -@Comcipher, the winner of our Raleigh Twestival contest. We begin the show discussing the pros and cons of businesses in virtual worlds. Are how to books Ponzi schemes? Help us decide on this week’s show comments. More and more businesses are getting into Twitter, is this a good thing? Can Twitter replace regular customer service? Why do we need a blow by blow of a Surgery on Twitter? Is 140 Characters too much for a “real” tweet? Is Andy enjoying Riverdance? Is Creative Commons necessary for Twitter? We decide that all news breaks first on Twitter, can traditional media actually keep up? Does Larry King know the definition of a Blog? We look at these questions, and more.

Dogear-Nation – Episode 44 – Simplicity + Maximum Verbosity

Simplicity + Maximum Verbosity

Matt and Michael M ensure that the show goes on, despite Michael R’s illness — sending good wishes to our missing co-host with a slightly longer than usual episode, Matt and Michael talk about the beauty of simplicity, both in software and hardware products, reminisce about Dungeons and Dragons and discuss the grand sport of peep jousting . When things just work, it’s a beautiful thing. Matt is slowly breaking down, calling an iPhone “seductive” and actually tagging links with the device that must not be named. Could we be going 3 for 3 in the Dogear Nation host to iPhone ratio? Time will tell. In any case, pay attention to Matt’s final thought and backup your hard drive. You’ll be glad you did!
